Which Interim Management Provider?

If you haven't engaged an Interim Management Provider (IMP) before, how will you choose the right one?
Ask candidate IMPs the following questions – they're designed to help you ascertain how well they understand your sector and whether their strengths match your needs...

1. Company history and track record
How long has their company been established?
What sectors does it serve?
Do they have an extensive client list?
Can they demonstrate a proven track record?

2. Specific sector knowledge and experience
Do they have in-depth knowledge of your industry and/or sector?
What experience do they have of providing Interim Managers in your sector?
What are the typical market rates for the role you're aiming to fill?

3. Interim relationships
Do they have a register of individually selected and fully vetted Interim Managers? (If they rely on a large database to find potential candidates, the Interim Managers will probably be unknown to the IMP.)
Do they have a strong relationship with their Interim Managers?
Have they worked successfully with them over several projects?
Can they provide customer references regarding candidate managers' current and past performances?

4. Approach to business
Are they prepared to invest time in understanding your business objectives and management needs?
Do they have a clear, structured approach to assignment management; from briefing through to successful completion?
